Beverly Hubric Ward is the director of Marketing and Sales for Arc-Tek Homes, a new division of J.A.Snyder Entities. She is a Realtor and a 12-year resident of Lake Anna, Virginia. She founded Arc-Tek Homes with designer Kenny Marshall in 2000 and coordinated the sale of dozens of custom homes around the Lake.

Beverly has had a wide ranging career. In the Eighties she opened a highly-successful travel company on the Gulf Coast of Florida that pioneered computerized reservations and is widely credited with the concept of Gold Card travel. She branched out into resort sales in the Tampa area. After a brief sojourn as a livestock farmer in north central Arkansas, she moved with two of her three daughters to Copenhagen Denmark where she again ran an international travel agency and was a consultant for a resort in Tenerife.

She returned to the States and opened a café specializing in Scandinavian food in the Georgetown section of Washington DC. Surprised at the lack of knowledge about the Nordic countries in the United States, she decided to produce a 13-part television series on the countries. “People knew little about Scandinavia other than the fact they had a lot of blondes and made good chocolates and Volvos,” she said. “I thought a series of PBS documentaries could expand peoples’ horizons.”

To host the Viking Project, as her series was called, she enlisted famed CBS newsman Walter Cronkite and traveled with him during the months-long shoot. When that project was done, Cronkite asked her to join him at his new documentary production company in Washington. She became the chief financial officer and then the chief operating officer of the Cronkite Ward Company where she was instrumental in the creating of 120 documentary hours for the Discovery Channels. In 1996 she married Jonathan Ward, president of the Cronkite Ward Company and the two began looking for a weekend place on Lake Anna. What was planned as a cottage became a five bedroom home on the water and the weekends away from Washington DC grew longer and longer. They moved to the lake full time in 2000.

Building their lake home led to a collaboration with Kenny Marshall who was well-known in Central Virginia and had designed more than a hundred houses around the lake. Together they opened Arc-Tek Homes in 2000.

“Teaming up with a larger contracting company exposes us to a wider range of projects and subcontractors,” says Beverly at her offices in the new Snyder headquarters building on New Bridge Road in Spotsylvania. “It lets us play a far larger role in making the Lake Anna area a vibrant community in history-rich Central Virginia.”
